Looking back through photos from when he was a new baby brings back such wonderful memories and makes me realize just how fast time flies by. Abraham entered the world on Sunday, July 12th weighing 7lbs, 12oz. and measuring 20in long. At his 1 month appointment he had grown to be 8lbs, 14 oz. and was 22.5 in long. This month he did a lot of sleeping and eating, and spent much time bonding with family, including all those in Louisville, as well as Muddy and Pops (Carol's mom and dad) who came up from FL. He went through many diapers and unfortunately experienced unpleasant sides of life, including lots of painful gas and acid reflux. Thankfully, both have gotten better with age.
He began life at a fast pace, only being home from the hospital for a couple of hours before heading out to visit with family that evening. Within a couple of weeks, however, life slowed down, and we began to see a routine develop. Abraham ate every 3 hours around the clock, and was great about going immediately back to sleep between feedings at night (he often ate while he slept). Thankfully, his easygoing disposition allowed us the time to rest, sleeping while he slept. Christopher was able to have 1 week leave from work, so he worked only 20 hours each of the first two weeks after Abraham was born.
We were blessed by the support and service of our family living in town. In addition, Muddy was a huge help during the first couple of weeks, providing many meals for us. Our Sunday School class, Wellums' Couples, blessed us greatly by providing wonderful meals for our family during the third week of Abraham's life. We so appreciated this service to our family as it allowed us to put off grocery shopping for another week and gave us more time together in the evenings without having to worry with the kitchen.
We experienced greatly the goodness of the Lord through His people during this time of transition. To all of you who helped by providing meals, sending notes, texts, and speaking words of encouragement, thank you so much! You helped make our transition smooth and sweet.
The following are some pictures of Abraham's first month. Enjoy!
Our last minutes as a family of two! What a sweet, short time our first 13 months have been. I cannot thank the Lord enough for his gift of such a wonderful husband.
Meeting our beautiful son for the first time! No words can describe the overwhelming emotions of this moment: the love, the joy, the awe...there's nothing like it!
Dad and Lad for the first time :)
Our sweet Abraham Michael...a little swollen from his trip into this world
My precious son...what a blessing!
Praise God for a safe and natural delivery. Both Mom and baby are doing great.
Abraham meeting Muddy (Carol's mom) and Nana (Christopher's mom) for the first time. His grandmothers, along with Aunt Lindsay and Aunt Molly, were at the hospital to welcome him into this world. Aunt Kate was sorely missed.
Pops and Abraham on Tuesday, July 14th, the evening Abraham came home from the hospital. We had dinner at Sam & Lindsay's with the Sills and Crosbys. Papi was in Canada and was missed greatly as well.
Muddy spent time staying at the Crosbys' and at our house. What a special time that was to have her here with us. Thanks for all the wonderful meals!
While the first couple of baths were a little on the traumatic side, with Muddy's suggestion of hand towels, Abraham came to love his time in the bath. It took about a month for him to be able to stay awake through them.
Mom and Abraham--he loves to snuggle, and so do we!
Abraham's first walk!
Mom and Dad got icees
Abraham is almost always swaddled when asleep. When he was new and could work an arm out, he held it up in the air with his fingers spread apart. Perhaps a salute of sorts?
A smirk while he dreams. In these early days there were times when his eyes were wide open and he was completely asleep. Newborns are such fun.
This was one of the most common faces he made when he was born. We don't see it as often nowadays. He's growing up too fast! :(
A sleepy baby with a full belly. This is the life!
Abraham and Daddy talking
This is the extent of Abraham's excitement. He was such a sleepy baby!
Abraham on August 12th. One month old today. Growing sure is exhausting!
